Nel 1994 Klaus Müller intervistò per conto dell'Holocaust Memorial Museum la lesbica olandese Frieda Belinfante, allora novantenne. Di padre ebreo e di madre cristiana, Frieda fu la prima donna direttrice d'orchestra in Olanda. Dopo l'occupazione tedesca entrò nella Resistenza antifascista. Quando il gruppo di cui faceva parte fu scoperto e giustiziato dopo aver compiuto una delle principali azioni della Resistenza olandese - la distruzione di tutti i dati dell'anagrafe nazionale -, Frieda si salvò vestendosi da uomo, nascondendosi ogni notte in un luogo diverso ed infine fuggendo in Svizzera attraverso il Belgio e la Francia. Emigrata negli Stati Uniti nel 1947, fondò l'Orange County Philarmonic Orchestra. In questo straordinario documento Frieda Belinfante ci parla dell'impatto dell'Olocausto sulla sua vita e della sua posizione di donna lesbica all'interno della Resistenza olandese. In 1994 Klaus Müller conducted a long interview with lesbian Dutch Frieda Belinfante for the Holocaust Memorial Museum. Of Jewish father and christian mother, Frieda was the first woman orchestra conductor in the Netherlands. After the German occupation she went underground and became a resistance fighter. After her resistance group was betrayed and executed, she survived dressing in man's clothes, hiding every night in a different place and finally escaping through Belgium and France to Switzerland. Emigrated to the States in 1947, she founded the Orange County Philarmonic Orchestra. In this extraordinary document, Frieda Belinfante talks about the impact the Holocaust had on her life, and about her position as a lesbian woman in the Dutch resistance. |
